The East Ottawa (EO) Stars High Performance Teams were established to offer opportunities within the eastern district of Ottawa and area to participate at the highest level of “AA” hockey. More specifically it will appeal to young ladies wanting to play hockey at the very highest level, against national and international competition.
The U22 Junior AA team will be based out of Richcraft Sensplex with a dedicated EO Stars Junior AA change room with personalized booths. They will play 40 league games in the OWHA-U22 Elite League which spans the Ottawa and Toronto regions. The players should plan to travel multiple times throughout the season with multiple away games scheduled on travel weekends.
U15AA and U18AA will play 20 OWHL-Eastern league games in the Ottawa area.
All teams will participate in 5-8 showcase-style tournaments, most of which will be out of town, plus Provincials mid-April if qualify in regional play downs.
Typically, a player can expect up to 2 practices per week and 1-2 sessions off ice for conditioning. There may also be regular team meetings and video review sessions to keep a constant flow of communication between the players and coaches.
Each player will have team fees to cover costs that are not covered by registration fees such as extra ice and tournament fees. Therefore, they may choose to seek sponsors, fundraise, and or collect additional fees from parents. Parents/players cover their own costs associated with travel, accommodations, and food when away from home.
EO Stars team tryouts are typically held in April of each year.

Gloucester-Cumberland Girls Hockey Association fields competitive teams from Novice to Intermediate/Senior. Competitive teams have letters after the age-grouping (e.g. U-11 C, U-13 BB) to indicate the competitive tier. The winter session starts with tryouts in the spring (usually late April). Fees for tryouts are indicated in the Registration section of the website.
Team practices start in late August or early September. Competitive teams play in the Ottawa District Women’s Hockey Association (ODWHA) League, which competes throughout Eastern Ontario. League games begin in late September or early October and extend until early February, after which league play-offs and provincial play-downs begin. League play-offs culminate in a city championship day in late March or early April. The Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA) provincial championships usually take place in Toronto in early-mid April.
Competitive teams are on the ice three to five times per week and may have additional off-ice training sessions.
Registration for the winter session usually opens in the spring. The registration fee for competitive players is outlined in the Registration section. Team members are subject to additional team fees and are expected to seek sponsorship to pay for expenses such as the purchase of extra practice ice, tournament entry fees, team equipment, etc. In addition, competitive teams may be required to purchase additional apparel, such as team jackets, as determined by the coach.
Competitive teams participate in several weekend tournaments, locally and out-of-town. These include games on a Friday and entail 3-6 games over 2-3 days.
The East Ottawa Lady Stars Senior Program is a premier women’s hockey team, featuring players 18 years of age and beyond who play in the National Capital Women’s Hockey League (NCWHL). This program offers a high-level competitive environment, fostering team development while maintaining a focus on excellence and camaraderie.
League and Schedule
The team typically competes in a 20-game league schedule, which begins at the end of September or early October and concludes at the end of February. Playoffs take place in March with the league championship held in early April.
The opposition can be at an elite level ensuring our players are continually challenged while working cohesively as a team to garner success.
Practices
The team averages about seven practices per season, strategically scheduled to maximize their effectiveness while keeping in mind the busy schedule of our players. Practices at this level focus on systems and both individual and team gameplay, ensuring players are well-prepared for the demands of high-level competition.
Tournaments
Players have the autonomy to decide which tournaments to attend. Last season, the team participated in the Whitby Wolves Tournament of Heroes in late November and early December, as well as the St. Catharines Niagara Women’s Annual Tournament in early March. The latter featured over 40 teams with 16 of them in the top division which provided exceptional competition and exposure for our players.
