Empowering Women in Hockey: East Ottawa Girls Hockey Association's Player 2 Coach Initiative

The East Ottawa Girls Hockey Association is leading the charge in bringing more women coaches to the game with its Player 2 Coach initiative. This program aims to improve the number and level of female coaching positions within the association by encouraging, mentoring, and empowering women to take up leadership roles behind the bench.
Since its inception, the Player 2 Coach initiative has made remarkable strides in diversifying the coaching staff of teams within the association. We proudly boasts the names of numerous non-parent female coaches, including:
U11BB - Assistant coach Emily Scott
U11AA - Head coach Allie Monuk , On Ice helper Emily St-Germain
U13A - Assistant coach Kara Godkin
U13AA - Head Coach Emma Shimizu, On ice helper Erika Graf
U15AA - Assistant coach Tyanna Irvin
U18AA - Assistant coach Abby Laporte
With the Player 2 Coach initiative aspiring female coaches are provided with the necessary support and guidance to thrive in their coaching roles. The Player 2 Coach initiative extends far beyond the confines of the hockey rink. By increasing the visibility of women in coaching positions, East Ottawa Girls Hockey association is sending a message to young girls and providing inspiration for the next generation of female hockey players, showing them that their love and passion for the game can also lead to valuable and positive coaching opportunities.
The East Ottawa Girls Hockey association is on a mission to continue expanding its roster of high-performance female coaches.
